The Cairns "Stingers" lived up to their name, defeating Capri 3 -0, in the final of the Valleys' Hockey Inaugural Preseason Invitational Challenge, at Burringbah Park, Chermside. United defeated Valley for third position, Bellbowrie(Ipswich) won against Toowoomba's Red Lions to take the Bowl for 5th place and QUT overcame Burleigh to win the Plate for seventh. A great weekend of hockey, played in trying conditions, but the players overcame the heat to produce quality, competitive hockey games.

Thank you to all the teams for supporting the event and to voluneers who helped out on the day. Hopefully everyone will be back next year for a bigger and better event!

The Valley Hockey Club is looking for sponsors

If you know of a business who can help us out please talk to Norm Ludwig and pass on their details.

CONGRATULATIONS

Norm Ludwig (VHC President) has been inducted as a life member of the BHA. Norm exceeded the laid down criteria (a points system based on service and importance of the role) by accumulating over twice the amount of points required and he still continues to serve on the Finance Committee as well as doing numerous other tasks. Norms service to hockey spans over two decades.

Also to Peter Harten (VHC Vice President) who was elected as a Director of the board for the BHA and Paul Saunders (VHC Board Member) who elected to the position of Treasurer for the BHA.

ABOUT VHC

Valley Hockey Club Inc. (VHC) was established in 1921 and we are proud of the many players who have gone on to represent their country. Our club is based in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and players come from many suburbs of the city.

All teams play in a fixture competition under the auspices of Brisbane Hockey Association Inc. and turf games are either played at the State Hockey Centre or our home turf at Chermside (Burringbar), which is behind the Kedron Wavell Services Club. Grass matches are always played at the one central venue: our grass fields at Shaw Road, Kalinga.

VHC has a history of winning and this is evident in the fact that in the twenty-seven years that a champion club trophy of the season has been awarded we have won it eleven times.

Turf teams train on the synthetic field at Chermside and grass teams train at Shaw Road, Kalinga. The club caters for players of different ages and abilities with teams in the junior boys, senior men and veteran (over 40) club competition.

New players and supporters are always welcome; we have a great social scene for those who enjoy that side of the sport as well as playing. If you would like to join us or desire further information please contact the President, Mr Norm Ludwig on +61 (0)7 3398 2700 or the club Secretary, Mr Mike Corlett on +61 (0)7 54 505 777
