Want to Join Valley Juniors Hockey Club?
All boys Under 17 years of age (and girls Under 13) can find a place to play hockey at Valley Hockey Club.
Our Hockey Club, one of the oldest in the country has a great family oriented Juniors Hockey Club. Children as young as 5 have been able to play in the Under 7 (Rookies) competition which is barely competitive. A place where scores are not really focused on, where the children can get together and have a fun game and develop some hand eye co-ordination skills, as well as team spirit.
Hockey for children Under 13 is particularly good for families, as the teams are mixed, with both boys and girls playing for the same team. A great advantage for families with a number of similarly aged children who don't want to be travelling all over Brisbane for the kids weekend sport.
Teams go up in two Year age groups, starting with Under 7's. Under 7's is really for anyone under 7 who can get on the field and run around with a stick and a fair sense of play.
As they get older they can join the Under 9's, then Under 11's and Under 13's.
By the time they reach Under 13's, games are considerably more competitive and the children's skills start to develop more fully. Once the girls reach 13, they move across to Valley Womens Hockey Club, and the boys go onto the J Grades which cater for all boys over over 13 and Under 17.
The J grades are based on Gradings of teams, with the J1 as the highest in skill, and often age group too, and J4 the entry level into J competition. Some years there are not enough teams to field a team in all grades and the best choice is made for the mix of players making up the available team(s).
