Valley Hockey Club (VHC) takes great delight in being able to announce the appointment of Mr. Mick Evans as our Division 1 coach and Club Coaching Director.
Mick has extensive coaching experience at the State level coming through the ranks from under 13 through to the under 21 age group. He has coached the under 18 State team for the last five years and the team has won the last two National Championships. After such a successful period with the under 18 State teams, Hockey Qld will transition Mick into the coaching role for the under 21 team.
Mick has been the Regional Coaching Director in Cairns for the last 8 years and has brought them from being just another country centre to a strong force in all divisions from under 13 through to Premier League. Cairns are no longer looked upon as not being a threat. This change in development level of the Cairns players is directly the result of Mick’s expertise. Whilst in Cairns, Mick has been involved in the Brothers Club and this has allowed him to pass his knowledge directly on to their club coaches and players.
Mick will also be taking up the role of Coaching Development Manager with the Brisbane Hockey Association (BHA) mid September 2008. This position is currently held by Darren Bisley. BHA considers it a coup that they have been able to secure the services of such a highly regarded coach into the soon to be vacant position. Mick's role with VHC enables our Club to have access to the most up to date information and coaching techniques available in Australia.
The role of Coaching Director for VHC is a fantastic opportunity for our players from Division 1 right down to Minkey, as well as also being great for our current and future coaches. Mick’s extensive knowledge in working with Club players and enhancing their talents to reach their maximum potential is borne out by the number of Cairns players who are regularly selected in the State age and school teams.
His technical knowledge will allow himself and the coaches to bring our talented players to a new level.
We should see our senior players come to a new level of skill and expertise as his influence comes into effect starting from this season. The juniors in our club are the ones who will benefit most from Mick’s appointment as they will have direct access to one of the best coaches in the State who has a proven track record in developing young players to a State level. This will be a great opportunity for our players and club. |
